SPACES & SERVICES WORKSHOPS

Yesterday I attended the second of two spaces and services workshop run by Linsey McIntosh as part of her teaching qualification.

The workshops focused on looking at how service design can be applied to interior design situations. It became apparent that there is a lot of overlap between the two disciplines. We looked at service design tools such as personas, cultural probes and experience mapping – a lot of which I have came across before but looking at how these can be applied directly to interiors proved very helpful.

Coming away from the workshops we have been challenged to utilise two of the tools we learnt about.

Firstly I decided to take the information I gained form my interview with Claire* to create two personas of the potential users of my space. I took aspects of what she told me and combined them with other research such as the age group with the most sufferers and the career sectors where S.A.D. is more common than others. This was a really helpful way of getting the most from information that I gained from the interview and tying it directly to my project.

The second tool task I decided to experiment with was story telling. This involves creating a collage of realistic and unrealistic elements to create a conceptual image of the concept.
