A HISTORY OF LENDALFOOT
My family have been holidaying in Lendalfoot for many generations so I'm lucky enough to have access to lots of old photos. This means I’ve been able to see how the village has changed (or not!) over the years. I’ve been particularly interested in the 1950s/60s period linking back to Andrew Geller’s designs.
Some old photos of the wooden holiday houses brought my attention to some interesting shapes in the roof structures.
The prominent wood cladding present on all the houses then and still today made me start to give a first consideration of materials.
Another quote from Andrew Geller’s book :
“Most vacation houses are designed to work roughly like a camera: a box, glazed on one side, with the glass wall pointed at the view.”
ARCHITECTURE JOURNAL 1955
This applies to nearly all the houses at Lendalfoot with “the glass wall” facing the sea and amazing views out to Ailsa Craig.
