RSA CREATIVE CONDITIONS

Working to RSA Student Design Awards brief: Design and develop a vision and business case for an environment or situation that prompts and fosters creative thinking.

G2: Supporting sunnier thinking in the workplace.

Climate related depression effects more than 12 million people across Northern Europe. Depression is proven to have a detrimental effect on creative thinking with studies showing happy people are 20% more likely to have an insight. Creativity in the workplace is becoming more and more widely sought after by bosses as the importance of it is becoming clearer.

G2 consists of a series of pods, towed by bicycles, which travel around to key sights in the business districts of cities. The company intends to get local businesses to subscribe to the service to enable their staff to visit the pods. Each pod acts as a space for reflection, an act that is key to creativity. They house LED lights which work in the same way as natural daylight, regulating melatonin levels and in turn decreasing levels of depression. This will result in increased levels of creativity, abilities to problem solve and think from different perspectives.

G2 will initially be launched in Dundee and in the coming years intends to expand both nationally and internationally. The pods structure is easily constructed out of lightweight materials meaning mass production won’t be a problem. The business is very easily adaptable to all locations whilst kept local through routes specific to individual cities. The linear wooden detailing across each pod represents the hours of daylight outside of 9-5 in the given city giving an additional personal touch.

G2 is an initiative working to promote the importance of individual happiness in the workplace leading to a more creative and therefore effective workforce.
